MOST INLINE HOCKEY SKATES(THE SKATES THAT HAVE A BOOT LIKE A HOCKEY SKATE) HAVE WHEELS SUITABLE FOR INDOOR USE. SOFTER WHEELS, 74-76 DUROMETER, ARE PREFFERED BY SOME OF THE MORE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS.

| Question: |
How many games and/or practices per week for U8?
When does the season end? |
| Answer: |
The number of games depends on the number of teams. Last year there were 4 U8 teams. They played twice/week from late Apr - early Jun. There is also a tournament at the beginning of the season for everyone, and one or two optional tournaments for fun. The kids spend a bit of time practicing prior to each game, but there are no other regular practices scheduled by the League. |
| Question: |
Do you have to have shin pants can you have shin guards and socks |
| Answer: |
You do need knee protection for inline, to protect knees from falls on the hard floor or from pucks. Shin guards (as are sometimes worn in soccer) are not enough protection for playing inline hockey. Hockey shin pads are required.
|
| Question: |
Can you have a full visor helmet |
| Answer: |
Yes, full face protection is required, either using a full visor or cage.
|
| Question: |
do you need to play to be a ref or can you just be a ref? |
| Answer: |
You don't need to be a registered player to be a referee, but you do have to be at least 13 years old and you must take the referee training course (date and time are announced on the website).
|
| Question: |
How do you get registered to try out for canyon cougars? |
| Answer: |
Even though the players on the Canyon Cougars U16 Elite Inline team support the RDIHA rec league, they operate as an independent team, apart from Red Deer Inline.
This season, the Cougars are participating in events that require a large commitment, both financially and time wise, so therefore, for planning purposes, they have already filled their roster.
Red Deer Inline's Snipers program will be holding open tryouts for those players that would like the opportunity to play Elite Inline.

| Question: |
Can you tell me what day/time games will be? I have heard that they play 2x/week. |
| Answer: |
It is likely that the games will occur more or less on the same day and time each week. When the schedules are formed they will be posted to the Gunners pages on the website. |
| Question: |
What is the male/female player ratio approx. |
| Answer: |
There are always a few girls in the league, but not as many as in ice hockey (yet!). To date, there have never been enough to form an all-girls team for any age division. There may be one or two girls on a team, but many teams have no girls. It would be great to see more girls playing inline hockey!

| Question: |
What options are available for buying/selling used equipment? |
| Answer: |
There is a free classified ad page on this website which you are welcome to use, whether you have something to sell or are looking for equipment to buy.
|
| Question: |
Are the goalie pads provided if so what kind of brand are they |
| Answer: |
Goalie equipment is provided for those that do not have equipment of their own. We have various brands, which are all CSA approved hockey equipment.
|
| Question: |
Is there also a league that plays in the Fall/Winter or is it only offered in the Spring. Thanks. |
| Answer: |
For now, RDIHA runs league play only in the spring. During the fall and winter, all currently available indoor arena space in Red Deer is used for ice hockey, so there is no space available for other dry-land sports.
|
| Question: |
I have read the FAQ and it touches on the equipment needed for inline hockey, but I am still not totally clear. Is it correct in saying that they can use everything the same from ice hockey if they choose, but there is some alternative equipment that they could use if they wanted. I would like to know what this alternative equipment is because I would think that they would get hot under all that ice hockey equipment. Also, are they able to use their ice hockey stick? |
| Answer: |
Yes, that is right. Full hockey gear is acceptable to wear for inline, although a neck guard and shoulder pads are not necessary. Specialty inline equipment that some choose to wear includes pants, girdle, and possibly a padded undershirt. Players MUST wear a CSA-approved helment with full face protection and ice-hockey-style shin pads (with knee protection), as well as elbow pads, hockey gloves and inline skates. A stick used in ice hockey will be fine for inline. Check the classifieds on this website for used equipment!
